There is currently a shortage of quality accommodation in Accra due to a mass migration of International companies from war torn Ivory Coast and an unstable Nigeria where kidnapping of foreign nationals is rampant. Household names like Nestle and Mercedes Benz are moving their African head quarters to Accra. Nestle alone requires 250 executive units for their senior executives!

The new arrivals take advice from their various embassies where the standard advice given is to stay on the beaten track which is the Upmarket category. This has led to excessive demand in the Upmarket area leading to a change in the dynamics of the kind of properties now being built in the area. Since this enclave cannot grow outward, it is growing upward with the introduction of luxury apartments.

Interestingly, the corporate prefer apartments to the sprawling houses which are common in this enclave. This is because they offer better amenities like swimming pools, club houses, tennis courts, gym, concierge facilities and most importantly security. These services come cheaper since they are shared and creates an atmosphere of community living.
